A deep violet, spooky purple sangria made with red wine, frozen blackberries, and blueberries. This easy-to-make drink is perfect for Halloween parties and features a vibrant color that looks like magic in the glass.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (Pinot Noir or Merlot recommended)
  • 1 cup frozen blackberries
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 oranges, sliced into rounds
  • 2 cans lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7Up)
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes (large cubes preferred)

Instructions

  1. Slice the two oranges into thin rounds and set aside.
  2. Pour the bottle of red wine into a large glass pitcher.
  3. Add the frozen blackberries and blueberries to the wine.
  4. Pour in the orange juice and add simple syrup if using.
  5. Stir gently to combine liquids without crushing the berries.
  6. Refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, ideally 4 hours, to allow flavors to meld and color to release.
  7. Before serving, add the orange slices to the pitcher and stir gently.
  8. Fill serving glasses with ice cubes.
  9. Right before pouring, add the lemon-lime soda to the pitcher and stir one last time.
  10. Pour the sangria over the ice and garnish with extra berries or orange slices.

Notes

Use frozen fruit to keep the drink cold and add thickness without watering it down. Do not crush the berries; let the color bleed out slowly. Add the soda last to maintain carbonation. The sangria can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days (without soda). For a mocktail version, substitute red wine with blackberry or grape juice.
