Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ounces aged cheddar, sharp and crumbly
  • 4 ounces blue cheese (Gorgonzola or Roquefort)
  • 6 ounces brie or camembert, soft and buttery
  • 4 ounces manchego, firm and slightly sweet
  • 4 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 3 ounces sopressata, spicy or sweet
  • 3 ounces genoa salami, sliced thin
  • 810 fresh figs (Black Mission or Brown Turkey), halved or quartered
  • 1 cup red or green grapes, small clusters
  • ½ cup dried apricots
  • ½ cup dried mission figs (optional backup)
  • ½ cup toasted walnuts
  • ½ cup roasted almonds, salted
  • ¼ cup toasted pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup local honey (buckwheat or wildflower), warmed
  • 3 tablespoons fig jam or mostarda
  • 1 small crusty baguette, sliced and lightly toasted
  • 1 box neutral water crackers or seeded crackers
  • 1 apple (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced and tossed with lemon juice
  • 1 pear (Bosc or Anjou), thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Warm ¼ cup honey in a small saucepan over low heat for 2-3 minutes until runny. Do not boil. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Halve or quarter fresh figs. Thinly slice apple and pear; toss apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning. Rinse and pat dry grapes, leaving in small clusters.
  3. Place cheeses on a large board (at least 12×18 inches), spacing evenly. Position brie in center-left, aged cheddar at top right, blue cheese at bottom left. Cut some cheddar into cubes; leave rest in a wedge.
  4. Fold prosciutto into loose ribbons near brie. Roll sopressata slices into cylinders opposite prosciutto. Fan salami slices in a small pile near center.
  5. Scatter fig halves around board, tucking near cheese and meats. Add grape clusters in gaps. Arrange apple and pear slices in a fan pattern along one edge.
  6. Fill small bowls with toasted walnuts, roasted almonds, and pumpkin seeds. Place in empty spots. Alternatively, pile nuts directly on board in small clusters.
  7. Drizzle warm honey over brie and blue cheese using a small spoon. Let some pool around figs for a glossy effect.
  8. Arrange toasted baguette slices along one side. Fill remaining gaps with crackers in small stacks.
  9. Step back and fill any bare spots with extra nuts or dried apricots. Add a small bowl of fig jam if desired. Serve immediately or cover loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate up to 2 hours. If refrigerated, let sit at room temperature 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve cheese at room temperature for best flavor. Toast nuts in a dry skillet for 3-4 minutes until fragrant. Warm honey is essential for easy drizzling. Assemble board no more than 2 hours before serving. For a dairy-free version, replace cheeses with vegan alternatives and increase nuts and dried fruits. If figs are out of season, use dried figs rehydrated in warm water or sliced pears.
