These easy Halloween treats feature hot dogs stuffed with sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in pretzel dough strips, and baked until golden brown for a spooky, savory, and fun snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tube (13.8-15.25 oz) refrigerated pretzel dough
  • 8 to 10 standard beef or pork hot dogs
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, cut into strips (or pepper jack for spice)
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Coarse pretzel salt
  • Yellow mustard, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Unroll pretzel dough and cut into 1/2-inch strips, approximately 6 inches long.
  4. Slice each hot dog lengthwise down the center, creating a pocket without cutting all the way through.
  5. Tuck a strip of cheese into the slit of each hot dog.
  6. Wrap each hot dog with a pretzel dough strip, leaving small gaps between wraps and leaving the top exposed for eyes.
  7. Form eyes using small pieces of dough, pretzel pieces, or candy eyes pressed onto the top.
  8. Brush the dough strips lightly with the egg wash.
  9. Sprinkle coarse pretzel salt over the egg-washed dough.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
  11. Cool for 2-3 minutes before serving with mustard.

Notes

If using crescent rolls instead of pretzel dough, watch closely as they brown faster. For best melting results, grate cheese from a block rather than using pre-shredded cheese. Dough should be at room temperature for easier stretching. These can be frozen unbaked and baked from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to cook time.
