These savory pizza pinwheels combine flaky dough with gooey mozzarella and spicy pepperoni for a quick, easy, and delicious snack or appetizer perfect for casual entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12-ounce (340g) pizza dough ball, softened to room temperature
  • 2025 thin slices pepperoni
  • 1 ½ cups (170g) shredded whole-milk mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup (120ml) pizza or marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme blend)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lightly flour your work surface. Roll out the pizza dough into a 12×10 inch (30×25 cm) rectangle about ¼ inch (0.6 cm) thick.
  3. Spread ½ cup pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch (1.25 cm) border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle dried Italian herbs and garlic powder evenly over the sauce.
  5. Arrange pepperoni slices evenly over the sauce without overcrowding.
  6. Generously cover the pepperoni with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Starting from the long edge closest to you, roll the dough into a tight log.
  8. Cut the log into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick slices to make 12-14 pinwheels.
  9. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange pinwheels cut side up, spacing about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart.
  10. Brush the tops and edges of each pinwheel with olive oil.
  11. Optionally, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over each pinwheel.
  12. Bake for 15-18 minutes until cheese is bubbling and dough edges are golden brown.
  13. Let pinwheels rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Let store-bought dough sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before rolling. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter for clean slices. Pat mozzarella dry if watery to avoid soggy pinwheels. If bottoms brown too fast, lower oven rack. Pinwheels can be frozen before baking and baked from frozen with extra cook time.
