These savory bacon-wrapped smokies are coated in a sticky, smoky BBQ glaze, making a quick and crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for parties or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound mini cocktail smokies
  • 12 slices thin-cut bacon
  • ½ cup (120 ml) thick smoky BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Toothpicks to secure bacon-wrapped smokies

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together BBQ sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper until glossy and thick.
  3. Wrap each mini cocktail smokie tightly with a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Repeat for all smokies.
  4. Place the wrapped smokies seam side down on the prepared baking sheet, spaced evenly.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes to start crisping the bacon and heating the smokies through.
  6. Remove the tray and brush each smokie generously with the prepared BBQ glaze.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes until bacon is crispy and caramelized.
  8. Optionally broil for 1-2 minutes for extra crispness, watching closely to avoid burning.
  9. Let the smokies rest on the tray for 5 minutes before serving to thicken the glaze.

Notes

Use thin-cut bacon for even crisping. Partially cook thick bacon for 3-4 minutes before wrapping to avoid undercooked bacon. Apply glaze twice for best caramelization. Watch oven closely to prevent glaze burning. Toothpicks keep bacon secure during baking. Can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking. Reheat in oven to restore crispness.
