Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets (about 10.5 oz)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water (120 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Optional: red pepper flakes or sliced fresh chili for heat
  • Optional: green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice 1 pound of flank steak against the grain, about 1/4-inch thick. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, 1/2 cup beef broth or water, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Wash and trim 4 cups broccoli florets. Mince 3 garlic cloves and grate 1 tablespoon fresh ginger.
  4. Optional: Toss the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and half the garlic and ginger. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
  5. Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef in a single layer and cook 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove beef and set aside.
  6. In the same pan, add remaining garlic and ginger. Stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Add broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender. Add a splash of water and cover briefly if needed to steam.
  8. Return beef to the pan. Pour the prepared sauce over beef and broccoli. Stir well to coat and cook 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens and beef is cooked through.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes if desired.
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions if using. Serve immediately with steamed rice or preferred grain.

Notes

Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness. Avoid overcrowding the pan to get a good sear. Marinate beef briefly for extra flavor and juiciness. Do not overcook broccoli; it should remain crisp-tender. Use gluten-free tamari and oyster sauce alternatives for gluten-free version. Leftovers keep well for up to 3 days refrigerated.
