A cozy, homemade pumpkin spice latte made with real pumpkin puree and a simple spice blend. This quick and easy recipe delivers a rich, balanced flavor that’s better than any coffee shop version.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk (whole, oat, or almond)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) pumpkin puree (100% pure, not pie filling)
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or homemade blend)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure)
  • 1 shot (1 oz or 30 ml) strong brewed espresso or 1/2 cup (120 ml) strong coffee
  • For homemade pumpkin pie spice: 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • For topping: whipped cream, cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice for dusting, optional 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso or strong coffee. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, pumpkin puree, and brown sugar. Whisk continuously until smooth and fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract. Whisk again and heat for 2-3 minutes until hot but not boiling (small bubbles around edges).
  4. Remove from heat. Pour the hot milk mixture into a mug, then stir in the brewed coffee or espresso.
  5. Optional: Froth the milk using a frother or by pouring back and forth between two mugs.
  6. Top with whipped cream, a dusting of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice, and a drizzle of maple syrup if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t boil the milk; heat until small bubbles form around edges. Use a whisk to prevent pumpkin clumps. For dairy-free, use oat milk and coconut whipped cream. For less sweet, reduce brown sugar to 1 tablespoon or use a sugar substitute. The milk mixture (without coffee) can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
