easy crispy mummy hot dogs recipe - featured image

A quick and festive Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in crispy crescent roll dough with tangy mustard eyes. This recipe is simple, fun, and perfect for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8 oz) tube crescent roll dough
  • 8 regular-sized hot dogs (45 oz each)
  • Yellow mustard for eyes
  • Optional: cheese slices or shredded cheese
  • Optional: poppy seeds or black sesame seeds for eyes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough on a clean surface and press seams together to form one large rectangle. Slice the dough into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.
  3. Wrap each hot dog with the dough strips diagonally, leaving small gaps to resemble mummy bandages. Optionally, tuck a slice of cheese inside before wrapping.
  4. Place wrapped hot dogs evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet. Optionally brush dough lightly with melted butter for extra crispiness.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and flaky.
  6. Remove from oven and use a small spoon or toothpick to place two small dots of mustard near the top center of each hot dog for eyes.
  7. Optional: bake for an additional 2 minutes to warm the mustard slightly.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Use cold dough for easier handling. Slice dough into thin strips for best crispiness. Do not wrap dough too tightly to allow even cooking. Use a toothpick to place mustard eyes precisely. Tent with foil if dough browns too quickly. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in oven to maintain crispiness. Avoid microwaving.
