A spooky yet delicious 5-ingredient Halloween treat featuring crispy black peanut butter cookies shaped like spiders with candy eyes and toothpick legs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Black gel food coloring
  • Edible candy eyes
  • Toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine peanut butter and sugar, stirring vigorously until well combined.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until the dough is smooth and cohesive.
  4. Mix in black gel food coloring until the dough is a uniform dark color.
  5. Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough per cookie and roll into smooth balls.
  6. Place dough balls on the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Insert 8 toothpicks into the sides of each dough ball to create spider legs.
  8. Press two edible candy eyes into the front of each cookie.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes until set and slightly firm.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

If the dough is too soft, chill it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before shaping. Ensure toothpicks are pushed in firmly to prevent legs from falling off. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Do not refrigerate as this makes them soft.
