A quick and easy garlic butter baked salmon recipe that delivers rich, buttery, and garlicky flavors with tender, flaky salmon. Perfect for busy weeknights or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

  • Salmon fillets (about 6 oz / 170g each, skin-on preferred for crispiness)
  • Unsalted butter (4 tablespoons, softened)
  • Fresh garlic (3 cloves, minced finely)
  • Lemon juice (2 tablespoons, freshly squeezed)
  • Fresh parsley (2 tablespoons chopped)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black pepper (freshly cracked, about ½ teaspoon)
  • Optional lemon zest (1 teaspoon)
  • Olive oil (1 teaspoon for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Allow about 10 minutes for the oven to fully heat.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons softened unsalted butter, 3 minced garlic cloves, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Mix well. Add 1 teaspoon lemon zest if using.
  3. Pat each salmon fillet dry with a paper towel. Lightly grease your baking dish with 1 teaspoon olive oil. Place salmon skin-side down on the dish, spacing fillets evenly.
  4. Use a pastry brush or spoon to evenly coat the top of each fillet with the garlic butter mixture.
  5. Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes (12 minutes for thinner fillets around 1-inch thick; up to 15 minutes for thicker ones) until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and the garlic butter bubbles slightly around the edges.

Notes

Let salmon sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before baking for even cooking. Pat dry salmon to ensure crispy skin. Avoid overbaking to keep salmon juicy. If garlic browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil. Butter can be substituted with olive oil or vegan butter for dairy-free version. Add red pepper flakes for spice.
